It’s so easy to make. This caramelized Saba bananas will serve you as a satifyingly, sweet tasting, snack or dessert. Our Minatamis na Saging na Saba is boiled in brown sugar and vanilla extract, until its sauce thickens, and obviously, Saba bananas are cooked.

This sweetened banana snack or dessert is one of the many Filipino street foods. Some use Minatamis na Saging na Saba, as a Halo-Halo dessert condiment.

Ingredients: 3-4 servings

3-4 pieces of ripe Saba bananas
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 drops or 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups of water

Instructions:

  1. Remove banana peelings, cut Saba bananas cubes, set aside.
  2. Set up the stove at medium heat. Pour 1 1/2 cups of water on a deep pan, bring in water to a boil, then add sugar and vanilla extract.
  3. Let the mix simmer while stirring occasionally. When sweetened water starts to thicken, carefully drop ripe Saba bananas into the mix.
  4. Stir it as it boils, leave it to simmer for 10-15 minutes until sauce thickens and bananas are cooked.
  5. Remove from heat and serve Minatamis na Saging na Saba, hot or cold.

Tip: Some people use this sweetened bananas as condiment for desserts like, Halo-Halo and Ginataan. Others cook it with condensed milk and served ice cold.
