When I first came to the United States, it really surprised me that Avocado plays a big role in many recipes, mostly in Mexican-inspired cuisines. I knew nothing else about other Avocado uses than to combine it with milk and sugar, apply ice cubes to make it cold, then serve it as a dessert or snack.

Perhaps Filipinos have a sweet tooth. We indulge in many kinds of sweets, for meriendas(snacks) or dessert after a meal, even with avocado. And so, an ice cold, sweetened avocado is a traditional Filipino dessert that is commonly consumed after a meal, just like Janis’s refreshing Avocado dessert.

Ingredients: 1-2 servings

2 ripe avocados
1/4 cup evaporated milk or condensed milk(Fresh cow’s milk optional)
1-2 tbsp white sugar, depends on your sweetness freferrence
1/2 cup crushed or cubed ice

Preparation:

  1. Simply cut 2 ripe avocados in half, remove the seeds, and slice avocados in small cubes.
  2. Place sliced avocados on a bowl, add evaporated milk and sugar, then drop crushed or ice cubes on the avocado mix.
  3. Stir ingredients to even up the mix. Place it in the refrigerator for 30-45 minutes. The colder it is, the better tasting your Refreshing Avocado Dessert will be.
  4. Take it out of the fridge, serve and enjoy this delicious, ice cold, sweetened avocado dessert!

Tip: If you’re using condensed milk, you may not need to add sugar, since the milk itself is already sweet. For frsh cow’s milk, you obviously should add sugar for the sweet taste of your Refreshing Avocado Dessert.
