Preparing Halabos na Hipon(shrimps) is simply cooking shrimps with a lemon-lime soda, either with 7Up, Sprite, or Sierra Mist. This recipe can also be made with other types of seafoods combo, including crabs, lobsters and other crustaceans. Millie chose to add Sprite soda for her Halabos na Hipon(Shrimps).

It’s a quick and easy Filipino shrimp recipe to make! Halabos na Hipon(Shrimps) can be served as an appetizer, but it obviously depends, how you want it served.

Ingredients: 3 servings

2 lbs. shrimp prawns, heads on
1/2 can of Sprite soda
1 tsp. cooking oil
salt & pepper to taste

Cooking Procedure:

  1. Clean and devein shrimps without removing its shells, take out the annoying antennae most of all.
  2. Heat up a deep pan, toss the shrimps into the heated pan, add salt and pepper and toss shrimps a few times.
  3. Apply a small amount of water, enough to let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until shrimps turn red-orange in color.
  4. Add more water as desired, drop a teaspoon of cooking oil, then pour 1/2 a can of Sprite soda. Let it simmer for at least 3 more minutes.
  5. Add more water if you prefer more sauce from it. Stir to mix ingredients thoroughly, then turn off the heat.
  6. Transfer Halabos Shrimps to a serving bowl. Serve hot on separate small dishes, depends on how many you serve. They’re yummy with steamed rice.

Tip: Use vinegar and salt, or a drop of fish sauce with it, to use for Halabos na Hipon dipping. This Filipino shrimp recipe is a great idea to serve as an appetizer for parties or family gatherings.
