Here is a delicious and easy-to-follow Bulalo recipe that you can try at home:
Ingredients: 3-4 servings
2 to 3 lbs beef shank with bone marrow (cut into serving pieces)
1 medium-sized onion, quartered
3 cloves garlic, crushed
4 stalks of bok choy leaves (pechay), cut into wedges (cabbage optional)
2 medium-sized corn on the cob, cut into 2-inch pieces
2 medium-sized potatoes, quartered
2 medium-sized carrots, sliced diagonally
1 bunch of green beans, ends trimmed
2 beef bouillon cubes (optional)
8 to 10 cups water
1-2 tbsp. fish sauce (optional)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
Cooking Instructions:
- Heat up the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté the garlic and onion until the onion becomes translucent.
- Add the beef shank pieces to the pot and cook until lightly browned on all sides.
- Pour in 8 to 10 cups of water, making sure that the beef shanks are fully submerged. Bring the water to a boil. Skim off as much of the scum that rises to the surface.
- While the water is boiling, lower the heat to a simmer. Add the beef bouillon cubes (if using) and season with salt and pepper to taste. You can also use fish sauce for added flavor.
- Apply a lid to cover the pot and let it simmer for 2 to 3 hours, or until the meat is tender. Make sure to check the water level occasionally, adding more water as needed.
- When the meat is tender, add the corn, potatoes, and carrots to the pot. Cook for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, or until the vegetables are.
- Serve this homemade, delicious Bulalo recipe with steamed rice and enjoy its soothing taste!
